There is plenty to do away from the the track and the judging tents during the 'Breakthrough. Here's a small sample:

Energy Expo Header

At the Energy Expo, you can...

  • Have a go on the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) simulator to gain an appreciation of how ESC works.
  • Visit the Low Emission Vehicle display to determine the emission levels of your vehicle.
  • Vox Bandicoot's two performers will run shows around the theme of energy use and sustainable transport. Look out for the Vox Bandicoot performers between shows as they rove around the Expo area.
  • The Connies will be roving around in their uniforms producing tickets in the form of collectable swap-cards that have an
    environmental, social, historic and cultural theme.
  • Come and see an array of heritage, electric and solar vehicles with RACV Heritage Vehicles, Holden vehicles, the Aurora Solar Vehicle, the RMIT Electric Car and a Hybrid Electric Bus!
  • Visit the Public Policy display to learn about Safer Roads, Safer Cars, Alcohol, and Speeding. Answer the competition questions correctly for your chance to win one of thirty $30 Coles Myer Gift Cards.
  • Ever been mountain climbing? Make sure you try out the Rock Climbing Wall.
  • Create a masterpiece with The Paintpot People mobile painting workshops.
  • Test your driving skills within a safe environment in the Monash University Accident Research Centre's driving simulator.
  • Help the environment by planting seedlings with Greening Australia, and check out how you can wash your car without water with So Brilliant, the waterless carwash
Extra Attractions
Water Maryborough Outdoor Swimming Pool
The Energy Breakthrough site encompasses the Maryborough Outdoor Swimming Pool, so if the weather is hot - it's a great place to cool off.
Opening Hours:
Wednesday 18th November 2009 – for early arrivals to the event 1pm – 8pm
Thursday 19th November – Sunday 22nd November 2009:
Pool Opening Times: 1pm – 8pm each day
Showers for event participants: 7am - 9am each day
If the day's forecast is above 30 degrees the pool will open from 11am - 8pm.
Future Spark

Future Spark
This November, you'll be able to have a ride with a difference when the crew from Future Spark bring their energy producing trailer to Maryborough. The trailer will be on-site on Saturday, November 21 in the Energy Expo area, near the Display and Presentation tents.

So, What Is Future Spark?
The Future Spark Power Trailer has 12 bikes, each connected to a generator positioned behind each bike. The energy created by the bikes directly inputs into the mains electricity grid via a regular 10 amp power point.
The Future Spark team's aim is to "inspire students to reduce their energy use and this is done by the practical physical experience of bike riding to create electricity."

Open Air Movie

Freeza Free Movie Screening
On the Thursday night, the local Freeza team will be screening a free G or PG rated movie from dusk. All welcome, please bring your beanbags or rugs!

Entertainment Entertainment!
The on-site radio team keeps the entertainment flowing all weekend with requests, race updates, special guests and competitions.
The RACV and HOLDEN stages will be operated by a team of young volunteers. They will be conducting interviews with teams from pit lane, providing hourly updates and plenty of music to help keep the wheels turning. If you have a group keen to be DJ’s, half hourly slots are available so see the guys at the stage to make a booking.
 
Rebel Sport Bonus Rebel Sport Vouchers!
Every school participating in the Breakthrough will receive a Rebel Sport equipment prize pack! Rebel Sport has sponsored our event through their association with the RACV's popular ‘Show your Card and Save’ program.
In 2009, EVERY school who has entered the Energy Breakthrough event is entitled to a Rebel Sport Voucher’, available at Registration.

Carnival Rides & Sideshows
Some people just live for scary rides, fairy floss and those clowns that swallow balls. If you're one of those people, then you'll love the range of Carnival Rides & Sideshows on offer just near the Energy Expo site.

 
Useful Services for Students and Teachers
Telstra Internet Kiosk Internet Kiosk
The Internet Kiosk is located in the Administration Centre and is supported by Telstra Countrywide.
Teams are encouraged to use this facility for checking emails at any time during the event.

Massage

Massages
Free massages are available to all participating students (and weary teachers too) throughout the event in two locations:
- Jubilee Oval Grandstand, and
- Kindergarten near the Admin Centre

Forgot the milk, bread or ice? Why not stop by the On-Site IGA Supermarket near the Design & Construction area?

St John's Ambulance & First Aid

St John Ambulance will have trained volunteers and staff on-site during all programmed hours of the event. They have a marquee located in front of the Swimming Pool near the RACV tent and Food court. There is a second first aid centre located adjacent to the HOLDEN track.

Thursday 19th Nov. 0800 - 2200
Friday 20th Nov 0700 - midnight
Saturday 21st Nov midnight – midnight (24 hrs)
Sunday 22nd Nov. midnight – 1400

When St John Ambulance personnel are not available on site, people should proceed to the Maryborough & District Health Service in Claredon St.
