One thing we love at Energy Breakthrough is a team that uses purely recycled materials. Seymour PS know their vehicles will be heavier than some, but they are engrossed in the true spirit of Energy Breakthrough.
We think that’s great so Ari King asked them a few questions about their progress so far.

Seymour Primary have two vehicles called ‘Gecko 1’ and the ‘Gecko 2’ for this years event.

EB (Energy Breakthrough): Tell us a bit about the Geckos?

Seymour PS (SPS): Gecko 1 and 2 are painted white and made from old school chairs, mild steel, recycled parts, a fibreglass nose cone (which we made ourselves), and corflute.

EB: You have actually been to every Energy Breakthrough except one.
Is your Breakthrough campaign part of class at school or as an extra- curricular activity?
SPS: A bit of both. We use the class time for teaching students about the event, etc, and after school is for practice and training.

EB: What aspect have you found most difficult so far?
SPS: Probably training and preparing bikes and the children for the event. We are gradually improving each year. Our main focus is to improve from the past.

EB: What have been the rewards?
SPS: Coming to the CityLink Vehicle Efficiency Day. It has provided us with enormous potential to improve. Also being more organised has benefited us.

EB: How have you raised your money?Any Major Sponsors?
SPS: The team has raised our money through sponsorship and the school council provided 25% of our funding.

EB: Is there an expectation to perform well in the event?
SPS: We set ourselves a number of goals:
Goal 1: Have fun.
Goal 2: Is to improve on past performances.
