Team Ballistic enroute to victory in the 2nd Round of the 2006 AHPVSS.Round Two of the 2006 Australian HPV Super Series has come and gone for another year. Team Ballistic crossed the line first overall, but all through the field there are races heating up as teams across all four categories pick up valuable points. Here Bendigo Senior SC's Jarrod Henderson reports on the days events. If you'd like to write a race report for the RACV EB web, contact Nigel Preston for more info.

This year’s event was the mostly highly contested 6 hour race in history with over 150 vehicles taking to the track. Fast clean and competitive racing was enjoyed by all in cool blustery but mostly dry conditions.

The race:

CrashThe race got underway and from the line it was Westminster College in the lead to the first chicane with their vehicle the Calais having the best acceleration from the standing start. However, with so many vehicles on the track many riders were caught out with 3 roll over’s occurring on the first lap at the tricky hairpin.  The small lead by the Calais was short lived with heavyweights Blueshift and Ballistic quickly taking the lead. And with just five laps completed Ballistic and Blueshift were out to an early lead over the rest of the field with Berwick Community team, Australian Made, William Light DAS and Deakin Uni’s Phantom P3 in hot pursuit.

BlueShift vs Ballistic
BlueShift and Ballistic battled it out for the lead exchanging the lead a number of times. This duel remained for the first 2 hours of the race. Before Team Ballistic broke away and took the chequed flag after the 6 hours of non-stop racing.

Categories 1 - 3
In the schools category, the Flying Hubcaps from Aberfoyle Hub Primary showed that they are the team to beat in Category 1 come Murray Bridge.

Whilst in Category 2, Scorpio from Gleesons College leads the Super Series on 242 points ahead of Blur 3 from Loxton College.

And in Category 3, Heathfield’s Sagero took the flag and is leading the Calais by 1.5 points overall after the first two rounds. This battle is set to heat up at this years AIPP as teams now shift their attention to the third round of the Australian HPV Super Series which is the 24 hour Australian International Pedal Prix to be held in Murray Bridge in September.
